I can still remember the feeling I had when I held my first child in my arms. I can remember my beating heart, the heat from the tears on my face, the overwhelming feeling of unconditional love for the first time in my life. I have been trying to construct an avatar this week and having a difficult time because when I think of who I am, I can only think; mother. Since giving birth to my two beautiful children, I have put myself aside and placed their needs and wants above my own. I forgot I am more than just a mom, I am me. I have desires and dreams and I have many wonderful characteristics that make me who I am. So I am really excited to see what my alter ego creates during this extra credit assignment. I love my children with all my heart but at some point I forgot I am still an individual too! I picked this picture because it relates to my task at hand where in, I need to create a representation of myself and the only thing I could think of when I think of myself, is my children….
Elise & Phillip: Somebody That I Used to Know - Top 7 - AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 11 (by americanidol)
Object Lesson #7
I love this video. Music is a major part of my life and I would be lost without it. When these two performed this together I could feel the music move me. I could also relate with the lyrics and they reminded me of every ex-boyfriend I have ever had. I think they complimented each other and it was the perfect match. Not to mention I am a huge American Idol fan because I enjoy watching stars be born right in front of my eyes. If you have a dream… live it!
I suffer from the disease of addiction. I have felt the words of this poem and experienced the grip of the disease. I have suffered loss, remorse, guilt and loss of control. I am now drug free and grateful to be alive.
I chose to share this poem this week because I have an uncle in the hospital waiting for a heart transplant because of his addiction to king alcohol. I understand the fight and the complete hopelessness one feels when in the grips of this disease. No human power can relieve oneself of this powerful and cunning disease.
Today I am free from the grips of this deadly disease and I am accountable to share my experience with others, so that they too may be saved.
If someone hasn’t experienced the baffling power of the disease of addiction, they couldn’t possibly understand. I didn’t wake up one day and say, “I think I’ll be an addict when I grow up. I want everything I love to disappear.” It doesn’t work like that.
This disease doesn’t care how much money you have in the bank, how many children, what city you grew up in, it only wants you dead.
Today, I have my choice back. And today, I choose sobriety.
I would like to know why it is illegal to copy movies off the internet when movie companies are still making multi-billions? Major industries charge the people an outrageous amount of money to go and enjoy their films in the theaters and we the people still go to watch them because of the pleasure to watch films on the big screen. Then why is it such a big deal for us to share the film after they have made their billions of dollars? Sometime the ways of this country baffle me…
I go to the movies quite often and I don’t complain about paying their ridiculous prices because I enjoy seeing a movie for the first time in prime time! Haha… but after the companies make theirs why can’t we have the ability to watch their films from home without cost? I thought this meme was funny and I am obviously for piracy! Heehee!! Don’t tell!
Super Cool Ski Instructor On the officials who voted for CISPA
Object Lesson #4
I thought this meme would go well with our second essay this term as we are tapping into some current political issues. I think it is funny how we call ourselves the “Land of the free” yet, we are being stripped of our freedom bill by bill. It is the year 2012 for Pete’s sake! Our technology is growing and our intelligence is diminishing. The Government would put tracking devices in our brains if they could. Although this is going to be a challenging week for me as I am not educated on political issues in the slightest but I feel it will give me some insight on the world around me and how I can better make a difference. If one vote can change an election maybe I better get educated and start voting, because what I have researched so far, I am not impressed. Most importantly, I love South Park and the outright wicked humor the authors bring into my life.
I am not registered to vote, so posting this might offend some people, but since this is supposed to be the land of the free, here is my opinion; The government in our country is a contradiction. They don’t want to help us, they want to destroy us. They want us to slave our lives away and take every penny we make and spend it on crap. We need more education in our children’s lives and not only for shit that happened years before they even existed, but for how to live in the world as it is today. We don’t need more jails and soldier, we need more rehabilitation facilities and allies! I could argue about the improvements our country needs to make in our government all day, but why? I don’t think it would make a difference. So I do the little things that can make a difference like loving the neighbor, recycling, volunteering my time and being a support to local businesses. I love my Country but I don’t agree with our government. I will continue to be the change I wish to see.
I am a believer in Jesus Christ! I have faith that there is something bigger than this world and is waiting for all those who honestly seek it. I choose this because I want to spread the good word of the Lord any time I have the opportunity. I have been to many dark places in my life and have survived. I have overcome many obstacles because of my faith in a power greater than myself. Many times when I have wanted to give up, I have turned my will over and my life changed. We were not meant to conform to the world, but were destined to transform the world in His likeness and bring our fellows to believe in goodness, honesty, forgiveness, and everlasting love. Many are deceived by worldly desires, myself included, but I believe our true purpose is to follow the truth and spread the word of Jesus. I am not afraid to speak what I believe. I do not push my beliefs on anyone, I simply set an example. If I could give even a little of what the Lord has given me to others, I would. I want to be a light in the world instead of a part of all the darkness.
I believe the pop culture significance of this video is that even though the song was made in the late 8o’s it is just as important in my life today as it was the first time I heard it. It was made by a fan and posted on youtube, which is where you would find it. My relationship to this song is extremely significant in my life today, my mom used to sing this song to my sisters and I when we were growing up. Now that I am a mother I am able to carry on the tradition and sing this beautiful song to my two amazing children. I believe this song represents me by explaining my outlook on my parenting. I would like to be an example in my child’s lives, I want to teach them all I can before I send them into this big, sometimes scary, world. I selected this because my children are always first to come to my mind. I found this on youtube because it was the only source I knew of at this time to post, saying that I do not have much computer experience!
